Smile of Khmer
—Cambodian Ancient Cultural Relics and Arts
30 July 2015 – 15 October 2015
This exhibition is the first Cambodian cultural relics exhibition held in China since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. To recreate the splendor of Angkor civilization and allow Chinese visitors to appreciate Cambodian art and relics locally, the exhibition presents 80 carefully selected artifacts from the National Museum of Cambodia. These treasures, all cultural remnants of the world-famous Angkor ruins, include large stone carvings, bronze ware, sculptures of Buddha and Bodhisattvas, architectural components, decorative items, ceramics, and other relics of different materials and forms. They vividly reflect the artistic development of the Khmer Empire during its golden age.
The exhibition takes the historical development of the stone carving art in the Angkor period as the main line, showcasing the Angkor art created during the heyday of the ancient history and civilization of Cambodia from the 9th to the 14th century AD.
