Traces for Yellow Emperor Culture
—Inspiration from Yangguanzhai and Shimao Archeological Discovery
1 April 2016 – 20 May 2016
Applying archaeological methods, this exhibition seeks to illuminate the era of the legendary Yellow Emperor, the revered ancestor of the Chinese nation, while honoring the enduring tradition of ancestor veneration and inspiring a vision for the future. It is centered on three key words: legend, science, and tradition.
Featuring 129 artifacts (or sets of artifacts) from the Yangguanzhai and Shimao sites, the exhibition displays items from the collections of Shaanxi History Museum and recent discoveries by the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology. It is organized into five distinct sections, each designed to highlight the cultural achievements of the era associated with the Yellow Emperor:
1.Roots of Our Ancestor: The Yellow Emperor
2.Dawn of Civilization: Archaeological Cultures of the Yellow Emperor’s Era
3.Foundations of a Domain: Insights from the Yangguanzhai Site
4.Steps to Progress: Discovery of the Shimao Ancient City
5.Honoring the Past: Evolution of Yellow Emperor Worship
In addition to the artifacts, the exhibition includes a wealth of archival materials, site photographs, and supplementary displays. These elements provide visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the Yellow Emperor’s era and its profound influence on the development of Chinese civilization.
