Rediscovering Splendor
—Exhibition of Newly Acquired Murals and Conservation Achievements
21June 2016 – 21August 2016
The restoration and preservation of Tang tomb murals has long been an important mission of our museum. Over the years, our team of cultural heritage conservation experts has tirelessly dedicated themselves to the study and protection of these invaluable artworks. Through scientific research and with innovative techniques, they have successfully restored and safeguarded the murals in our collection.
Tang tomb murals are among the most exquisite treasures in the history of Chinese and global art, representing the pinnacle of ancient mural artistry. These murals are not only invaluable cultural heritage but also hold significant historical value. With highly realistic techniques, they vividly depict the social realities of the time, particularly the customs, rituals, attire, and architectural styles of the Tang elite, serving as a magnificent scroll painting of life during a prosperous era.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of our new museum, 15 newly acquired and restored Tang tomb murals will be presented. These treasures are shown to both domestic and international visitors for the very first time. Complementing the murals, five sets of precious artifacts related to their themes will also be on display. These exhibits allow visitors to appreciate their profound historical and aesthetic value, and embark on a journey of exploration and discovery.
