Silk Road Legacy Radiating from Chang’an
16 October 2017 – 7 March 2018
This exhibition showcases the interaction and mutual learning between world civilizations and Chinese civilization represented by Chang’an, the starting point of the Silk Road in the Han and Tang dynasties. It selects 140 representative cultural relics together with heritage pictures from 12 museums including those from Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, and Xinjiang.
The exhibition is divided into four parts:
1.Opening up to the Western Regions presents the Han Dynasty’s management of the Western Regions and the exchange between agricultural and nomadic civilizations;
2.Eastward Spread of Buddhism shows the process of Buddhism’s Sinicization and the development of Buddhist art;
3.Foreign Influences in Chang’an demonstrates the integration of foreign and Chinese civilizations in Chang’an during the Tang Dynasty;
4.Legacy of the Silk Road reflects the far-reaching impact of foreign civilizations.
Adhering to President Xi Jinping’s concept of “bringing cultural heritage to life”, the exhibition offers interactive and participatory activities, such as multimedia and short films, to enable visitors to have an immersive experience of the Silk Road culture.
