Qingtian Stone Carving & Masterpieces by Xu Weijun

Qingtian stone carving is a traditional Chinese folk art with a long history and unique charm. It is named after Qingtian County in Zhejiang Province. This exhibition shows the history and technical characteristics of Qingtian stone carving and the masterpieces by the contemporary master Mr. Xu Weijun.
The exhibition is composed of four sections: “History of the Carving”, “Masterpiece Carvings”, “Improving the Craftsmanship”, and “Traditionalizing the Beauty”. The exhibits include more than 200 fine stone carvings of various dynasties, made of the four major Chinese carving stones i.e. Qingtian stone, Shoushan stone, Changhua stone, and Balin stone, the masterpieces of Xu Weijun, and the seal carving works by the renowned seal engravers from the Xiling Seal Engravers’ Society.
This exhibition is the first time in China to show the supreme charm of Qingtian stone carving art from multiple perspectives of history, technology and inheritance, and also a successful cultural exchange and cooperation between Xi’an and Qingtian.
