Everlasting like the Heavens
—The Culture and Art of the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang Dynasties
10 January 2020 – 28 Match 2020
Shaanxi was the capital of 14 dynasties in ancient China, including the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang, as well as the starting point of the Silk Road and one of the centers of ancient world civilizations. The profound cultural and historical heritage embodied in its substantial cultural relics is legendary.
From September 10 to December 17, 2019, the Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Administration and Tsinghua University jointly held a special exhibition on the culture and art of the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties at the Tsinghua University Art Museum in Beijing, which has attracted widespread attention and praise from experts, scholars, and the general public at home and abroad. The present exhibition is a follow-up to be tailored for the Shaanxi audience and meet their earnest expectation of appreciating the national treasures on their doorstep.
The exhibition selects 149 pieces or sets of the representative cultural relics, and consists of six parts: “Birth of the People”, “Rise of Zhou Rites”, “Polity of Qin Dynasty”, “Sovereignty of the Emperor”, “Integration of Diversity”, and “Heyday of the Chinese Nation”, illustrating the glorious development process and splendid culture of Shaanxi represented by the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties. The exhibition name “Everlasting like the Heavens” is an inscription on the tile-end of the Han Dynasty, conveying the blessing for the longevity and prosperity of the People’s Republic of China and the inheritance of the brilliant Chinese traditional culture.
This exhibition is an innovative collaboration between the Shaanxi cultural and museum sector and higher-education institutions for patriotic education.
