Painted Pottery of China
—5,000 Years of Merging and Integration
22 January 2020 – 15 July 2020
Exhibition Room 5
Prehistoric painted pottery plays a significant role in the formation of “early China”. It provides hints for exploring the profound roots of Chinese civilization and the Chinese nation.
This exhibition is the first one of the “Early China” exhibition trilogy initiated by Shaanxi History Museum. It brings together 245 pieces (sets) of painted pottery and related cultural relics from 36 cultural and museum units of 16 provinces, regions and municipalities, making it the most extensive display of painted pottery in China to date. The exhibition consists of three progressive sections: “Origin of Art”, “Concept of Society” and “Root of China”, which respectively depict the chronological development of painted pottery in the Weihe River Basin over 3,000 years, the synchronic close-up of the prosperous period of painted pottery, the Miaodigou Society, and the exploration of the origin and progress of the painted pottery known as “the China Flower”.
The exhibition transforms the latest archaeological discoveries and research results into the form of display that is popular with the public, outlining the magnificent process of the first cultural integration in China 5,000 years ago and the unforgettable achievements made by our ancestors.
