Restoration of the Mural Painting Collections in Shaanxi History Museum
1 October 2020 – 31 March 2021
Our museum has collected more than 600 murals covering an area of over 1,200 square meters. The restoration of the murals is one of the important projects in our museum and we have successfully established the Key Scientific Research Base of Conservation & Restoration for Murals as Collection and Materials Science of National Cultural Heritage Administration.
This exhibition showcases the protection and restoration work of the murals over a period of six months. A series of interactive activities are included, such as the Q & A session about mural protection, introduction to the instruments, copy painting of murals, and simulation of mural splicing. By combining modern technological means and research methods with traditional techniques, the protection of murals in museums is developing towards specialization, refinement, scientificity and standardization.
This exhibition has been the 8th session of the series on cultural relic restoration in Shaanxi History Museum since February 2018, as an innovative form to stimulate public interest, promote traditional skills and popularize knowledge of cultural relic protection.
