Jinci Temple
—The Epitome of Chinese Temple Gardens
14 December 2021 – 28 August 2022
Jinci Temple, located at the foot of the Xuanweng Mountain in the southwest of Taiyuan City of our neighboring Shanxi Province, is the earliest royal garden and ancestral temple in China. It originated in the Western Zhou Dynasty over 3,000 years ago and was renovated and expanded by the successive dynasties.
The exhibition consists of three sections: “Ancient Architectural Treasures”, “Acme of Chinese Gardens”, and “Aggregation of Cultural Relics”. A total of 118 precious objects, including architectural components, calligraphy and painting, couplets, steles, and sculptures, are displayed. It creates a visual feast of the cultural and historical legacy by means of lifelike models, reproduced scenes, multimedia and VR digital interaction, to emphasize the design concept of Jinci Temple being a beautiful and vibrant painting of our profound history.
From March to July 2017, the exhibition of our museum’s collections named “Galloping Through History—Chinese Ancient Culture on Horseback” lasted for four months at Jinci Temple Museum. The current exhibition is the continuation of the friendly exchange between the two museums, and surely contributes to the mutual learning between local cultures.
