Post Capital Times: Shaanxi after the Tang Dynasty (907-1911)
After the Tang Dynasty, as China’s political center shifted to the east, Shaanxi no longer held the position as the seat of the imperial capital but continued to play a leading role as the political, economic and cultural center in northwest China. The cultural creation and inheritance on this land still possess unique charm.

Based on the diverse cultural styles of the Sui and Tang dynasties, religion has flourished in Shaanxi since the Song Dynasty with Buddhist temples and pagodas scattered throughout urban and rural areas. The outstanding examples include the stone grotto temples in Northern Shaanxi, the Daoist temples in the Huashan Mountain, and the ancestral temple of the Quanzhen School of Daoism in Huyi County. Each of them stands magnificently, fully demonstrating Shaanxi’s position in the dissemination of religious culture.
