Wall Painting Treasures of the Tang Dynasty
Location
Room 1 on the basement level of the East Exhibition Hall
Introduction
The tomb murals of the Tang Dynasty constitute a featured collection of Shaanxi History Museum, including nearly 600 fine murals of over 1,000 square meters from more than 20 tombs, among which 69 sets of 82 pieces are national grade-one treasures. They vividly reflect every aspect of Tang society, culture and art, illustrating the ritual norms, living customs, clothing features, entertainment methods, and architectural styles at that time. The murals provide extremely valuable information for studying the life and spiritual pursuits of the Tang nobles. To better preserve the fragile murals, we have decided to build a specialized mural museum for both protection and exhibition.
